Officials visited the houses of 13 chitta addicts, including eight HIV positive persons, in Badrukhan village, near here today. They sought help from their families in getting the addicts admitted to de-addiction centre.

One addict, who had locked himself in a room, was admitted by breaking open the main door, while two others were admitted with the help of the police. The number of total addicts admitted has increased to eight. Of the total admitted, five are HIV positives, while the remaining are suffering from hepatitis C. An addict’s daughter claimed that drugs were being openly sold in their village.
A team of senior police officers, SDM Avikesh Gupta and area Congress leaders, including Punjab PPCC spokesperson Daman Thind Bajwa and secretary Harman Bajwa, sarpanch of Badrukhan village Kuljeet Toor and others visited the houses of addicts and asked their families to assist the administration in getting them admitted to the de-addiction centre of the Sangrur Civil Hospital.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
